how do YOU choose?

sounds so serious, right? But I'm only talking about shoes :)

We have local running stores dedicated to helping people find that "perfect" shoe and while I trust their judgement, I question why certain stores only carry specific brands? One local store sells only Mizuno's? Another local store carries all other brands, except for mizuno...hmmm? What if that shoe is not right for me? Right now, I run in Asics gel nimbus and they are great, but pretty worn out and it's almost time to buy a new pair. Which brings me to my question...what shoe brand is right for YOU? I know I love Nike Shox, but only because they come in cool colors and are totally fun to wear, but although I have over 8 pairs of them, they are NOT exercise shoes...for me! They are just too heavy and don't give me the support I need, anywhere! But they sure are cute :)

Ohhh I can't wait to see your responses, then it's time to shoe shop!!!
**Thank you to all of you that have signed up for the Independence 5K...I will be sending you a confirmation email soon and I'm happy to report that we've got about 3-4 sponsors already on board such as BondiBand, Shaklee, GU and more...If you haven't signed up yet, what are you waiting for?? Keep spreading the word!!! and SIGN UP HERE!**

I love, love, love Newtons! They have helped my knee pain so much and I think they made me faster too! =) Here's a post I wrote about them. http://katieaschmidt.blogspot.com/2011/04/love-my-newtons.html
Good luck finding the right shoe!

I'm not a runner...but I do have the new balance running shoes...they offer great support, but it's time to buy new shoes.

For the shoes I exercise in, I went to a local store and they watch you walk and find comfortable shoes. Before I always insisted on Nike and was too good for New Balance. Now Nike's don't fit my feet right.
The worst though is they feel fine in the store then when start working out, they hurt my feet.
I will continue to go Gary Gribble's for my shoes.

I usually just go with whatever looks good and what the store recommends. BUT, this time ~ since I love love love to be barefoot ~ I think I'm going to try the Vibram FiveFingers. Something to consider...

I'm currently in Saucony's Omni Progrid 8. I've worn this brand for the last couple of years. Before that I was in Brooks. I'm about ready for a new pair myself and I'm contemplating trying something new. It's a bit nervewracking isn't it?

I was wearing Asics and getting pain in my lower/inside calf, even though I thought the shoes were comfortable. I went to a running store and they fitted me in Mizuno's. I liked the extra arch support they provided. I shaved significant time off my mile pace just from a change of shoes, and no longer have the lower leg/calf pain! I wear my Asics for TRX, and therefore if I hop on the treadmill for a quick run after class I have them on, and they are now MISERABLE to run in. A great shoe makes a huge difference!

Thanks for the comment. Boxing sounds like a great workout. I have only tried it ...ahemmm on the Wii with my daughter. LOL. The next day it took me a few hours to figure out why I was so sore.

If I am able to really run by 7/5 (and I think I will) then I will definately sign up for the virtual run. I love doing these on my Nike+.
