hot off the press...AND 13.1!

F.Y.I: Before you get too excited and ready to congratulate me,

NO I have NOT run my 13.1...yet!

My mom in law brought me the "delish" section of the Houston Chronicle featuring a recipe for

Parmesan Brussels Sprouts-I can't tell you how they taste because we're trying them out tonight, but I will say that they sound AMAZING!

Parmesan Brussels Sprouts

1 1/4 pound brussels sprouts, thinly sliced

2 tbs extra virgin olive oil

1 tsp fresh thyme

1 clove garlic, sliced

1/8 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

1 tbs red wine vinegar

1/4 coarsely grated Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 450. In large jelly roll pan, toss brussels sprouts, olive oil, thyme, garlic, s&p. Spread evenly. Roast 20 minutes, stirring once. Toss with vinegar and Parmesan cheese!

and now back to my 13.1, mentioned in the post title. I've been thinking a lot while I'm out increasing my mileage for my first half marathon, and I think about a lot of things! Isn't that why running is so great? Just me and my thoughts!! I have been thinking about what those 13.1 miles will mean to ME. Some things that come to mind: accomplishment, this will teach my children that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, triumph, fear, pushing myself.

I sometimes find myself feeling giddy out there(crazy, I know) because I think about how my life "used" to be. Before exercise. Before exchanging my sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits for a new, happy, healthy way of life! THAT is what will push me to that finish line on January 15th. That and the fact that my husband will SMOKE me to that finish line! Ha! But that's ok, I'm darn proud of him too and it'll be a great way to celebrate our 7 years of marriage! Maybe champagne and strawberries will greet me at the finish line? I mean, how many couples get to run their first half marathon TOGETHER on their anniversary?! But yea, he's still going to totally kick my booty!

what an awesome way to spend your anniversary! I'm single, but I hope and pray that when I find my 'better 1/2' that he too can share in my passion for running together. Good luck in your first 13.1, they're addicting :)
