what makes it GREAT?

The other day I had one of THOSE workouts!

The one where you come home, take a deep breath and smile! You feel good. Really good.

You know you've done something great for yourself.

You left all of your stress IN that workout.

You pushed yourself harder than you had before.

You felt your body getting stronger.

And at one point, I think I even got a little emotional knowing I was working so hard!

Know what I'm talking about?

So, I'm asking you....what makes a GREAT workout?
I think to achieve THOSE workouts more often, it's in our mindset. If we tell ourselves we can, then we WILL. If we tell ourselves before we begin that we may fail, or we don't want to do it, then we probably won't see the results we'd like. We have to work for the things that we want and if we want it and work hard for it, we'll crush anything in our way!

Oh love it when that happens! I try to address my stress before the workout...that way I can kick the crud out of it throughout the workout!! If I try to push it down and forget it, I find it is waiting for me when I'm done.

I agree that it is mindset! I always have a plan in my head for a workout. And I always leave it open ended, so if I can push harder at the end, I do. This is what got me in trouble this summer, though, by not taking it easy. Now my workouts are great in different ways - pushing myself to the max when that's the intent of the workout AND taking it slow and easy when I'm supposed to.

I would say definitely it's when it starts out hard, you have doubts you can do it, but you still don't quit. You tell yourself "no walking until I'm FINISHED!" and you stick to it! I had one of those today. 5.86 miles and now I'm sore and tired...but happy on the inside. :)

LOVE workouts like this! They usually sneak up on me when I'm least expecting it and I totally surprise myself by pushing through a barrier I hadn't gone through before. It IS emotional!

Great job!

Here from the blog hop!

I know exactly the workout you're talking about! That feeling of ending a workout and feeling like a better you for having done it.

Have a great weekend!

Fantastic post and exactly what I need at the moment. Lately I have been stuck in the "can't do it, too hard, I'm not good enough" mentality.

I am definitely going to take you up on your advice - I WILL tell myself that I CAN do it. No more self-doubt for me.

Thanks again for your great post :)

I love those workouts! I had one last Wednesday... so totally satisfying and gratifying. Wow. I find that if I don't think about it too much, I have a better workout.
